Welcome!

This little blog started on our wedding website, which kept family and friends up to date on the planning and details. Of course this is where we will provide all of the recaps of the wedding and everything after. We look forward to keeping family and friends up to date on our lives here in Texas and all of the adventures we share as newlyweds!

Weekend Fun!

After working for 2 weeks straight I am so ready to relax a bit this weekend, or at least try to. With school and work extra time has been non-existent. Of course Rene has been working like crazy as well so this weekend we have a little fun planned for a late Birthday Present for yours truly!
We're going to see Ovo by Cirque du Soleil! This will be my 4th Cirque show that I have been to and Rene's third I absolutely love them! This is a traveling show that is in DFW this weekend and I highly recommend finding out if it will be coming to a city near you because all of them are amazing!

Image from Cirque du Soleil Website

"OVO is a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion.
When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives.
It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.
OVO is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew. " - Cirque du Soleil website

I Love Free Things--and Rene for finding them!

I have got to give a big shout out to Rene today for being a wonderful hubby and paying attention to the Money Saving Mom on our local newscast in the morning. He heard a great deal from CoastalContacts.comwhich offered a free pair of glasses and standard lenses (some restrictions applied). I will say that I am a bad blogger for not remembering to post this before the offer expired (it ran from 9am est today until noon).

I was able to get a $89 (Retail:$260) pair of Vera Wang glasses for only the $20 shipping cost. Yay Rene! I'll still have to go in and have them fitted I am sure but hey, $20 is a great deal.

I would highly suggest you stop my and check out the website because they have a lot of great designer frames for super cheap! You can also "like" them on Facebook to get updates on sales, promo codes and events.

Enjoy!

Improving Myself--add it to the list

Item #2 on my 2011 List...

Improve myself professionally. This one is going to be a bit of a struggle for me. Not because I don’t want to better myself in my career but because I find myself finding excuses about when do I have the time? So I’ve given myself a short (very short) list of self help/sales books that I want to read. I guess they all can’t be fun reads….

1. The Little Red Book of Selling
2. The Power of Nice
3. Good to Great

2011...

“2011 List”

This year I was a bit late when it came to creating a resolution/goal/list for 2011. My main reason was that I was pretty impressed with my attainment of things from last year. Some of my plans are still there from my 2010 list (getting home to PA, keeping in better touch with friends, finishing the wedding scrapbook) but I’ve also added some new items for my 2011 List.

This year I thought of my resolutions as an ongoing list that I can add things as they come to mind that I want to do this year. I am going to start letting you all know about my ongoing “list” for this year over the next few days.
First and foremost I have decided to create a will read list of books this year. I still would love to read at least 12 but these are some of the titles I need to get to….

My Will Read Books of 2011

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (just bought it for my Kindle!)
Re-Read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows before the movie comes out (started and sitting on the night stand)
Freedom
Full Dark, No Stars
The Art of War
The rest of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels (# 8- #10 the 11th comes out this year)
Safe Haven
The Hangman’s Daughter
More to come I’m sure….

Pittsburgh's Coming to Dallas

I didn't get to post on Sunday so here it is...
PITTSBURGH'S GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!

Get our your terrible towels and put on your black and yellow because the steel curtain is coming to Dallas!
Rene might not be as excited as Stitch and I are (he's a Pats fan) but I am seriously motivated to figure out some way of getting in on the Super Bowl action in Arlington. Anyone want to spot us the $6,000 for 2 upper level tickets?

Working for the weekend

Well no weekend for this lady this week. Instead I will be heading out of town this evening for Arizona for my company's national meeting. We will be there through Sunday for meetings, breakout sessions, and trainings (fun packed right?).

While I am always ready to learn and get to smooze with the big-wigs of the company I wish it didn't take up my weekend. Especially when I have to be away from the hubby and puppy.

Though the resort looks pretty spiffy JW Marriott Desert Ridge

The downside though that I have noticed with the "higher priced" Marriotts is that they require a gym fee of $10-$15 per day for resort guests. The worst part of traveling (ask Rene) is trying to keep up a workout routine, and after the past 2 days of being stuffed up I haven't made it to the gym so the rest of the week I need to get my heart rate up, and I'm sure that being locked up in conference rooms all day I will need the release so a $15 well spent!

Add to that yesterday was the start of the Spring semester for Grad School so it's going to be a bit of a balancing act between this week in Arizona but I'm sure I'll get through it.

For those of you that have one, have a great *weekend*--and think of me!

The Dreaded COLD!

Well it has finally happened, I think that the all the germs in my office and those people that come to work when they sound like they are coughing up their right lung have caught up with me and officially invaded my body and I spent this weekend with a semi-sore throat a little bit of a cough and stuffy nose.

Not the best way to spend my birthday weekend waking up feeling like "blah". But what's even worse is that I can't take anything for it.

So a quick trip to Target to stock up on some Zicam nastiness in hopes of cutting the time to recovery in half since I leave for our national meeting this Wednesday-Sunday in Arizona. I tried to take some cold meds but unfortunately I can add acetaminophen to the list of medications that cause my hives (yep my chest and arm was covered once the medicine kicked in) so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, I either take medicine and feel better but I am covered in hives, or I take nothing and feel like crap but at least don't look like a freak.

Needless to say that since I'm at work today no medicine was taken to avoid the awful rash and I'm pushing through the day and looking forward to a quick trip to the gym and then sleep in hopes of getting rid of this cold.

Anyone have any homeopathic remedies that have worked for them? I am taking any and all suggestions!

Happy Birthday-You Are No Longer a Capricorn

Well that was not the best birthday gift! I apparently am no longer a Capricorn because the earth is "wobbly"...and after 25 years of being a Cap and believe that I fit the description pretty well

"Capricorn in a Nutshell: Capricorns are very ambitious people, they always have something they are pursuing and they want their lives to be fulfilled and important. Capricorns are extremely patient and will wait a long time for something they want, when the opportunity arises, they will plan their steps carefully to others, they might appear hesitant but this is not true, they know that there is only one chance to succeed and they are filing together their information to take the proper steps to accomplish their goal with flying colors, not just second rate. Capricorns have a very active mind and strong powers of concentration. Capricorns like being in control of their surroundings and everyone in their life. Capricorns are very cautious but this only to survey the situation before leaping in, they will never make a hasty jump in. They accept change but introduce it slowly so they can get used to it and incorporate it into their life. Capricorns tend to see life in black or white, definitive's only. There are no gray areas for these are areas that are not understood and this makes Capricorn feel uncomfortable. They tend to be in control in a romantic relationship that way they are never vulnerable to another person."

I now apparently was one of the many that now have a new astrological "sign" and now fall into the realm of Sagittarius...

Sagittarius tend to aim their arrows of thought upward, being the incurable optimists of the zodiac. Sagittarius often look at the sunny side of life and the silver lining to any dark cloud. Sagittarius are honest to a fault, for you can say what's on your mind before you realize that someones feelings might be hurt. Since the Sagittarius is part horse, there is also a connection between Sagittarius and horses, be it a love of riding or an emphasis on the most powerful part of a horse: its legs and thighs. In fact, many of Sagittarius love outdoor hiking and long distance running. The Sagittarius motto is "It is better to know how to learn than to know." You seek knowledge and wisdom, never tiring of the quest for what is yet to come. Others enjoy being with you when you are in your outgoing and joyful mood, but you can become more sullen if you feel that your wings have been clipped. Even in a restrictive situation, however, you'll not lose hope--and it is this inspirational perspective that leads you to your greatest success.

I personally think that I fall much more into the Capricorn area than the Sagittarius...so even though there's been a "change" in the stars I think I'll stick with the Capricorn sign...

Did your "sign" change if so what do you think about your "new sign"....

What a Way to End 2010!

After making the 7.5 hour drive to the east and arriving in Memphis it was completely worth it to be there as UCF rang in the New Year with their very first Bowl win at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl again Georgia!

The weather held out and we only had a few showers until after the game and my voice is slowly making a come back after a lot of screaming but it made the drive all the more worth it to be there!

I will say however that I am still a bit sad that in the ESPN broadcast after the game it wasn't about UCF winning but rather Georgia losing....oh well nonetheless a great way to round out the 2010 season!
